White Wash
I collaborated with one of my oldest friends, the filmmaker Benjamin Lang, on this dark comedy short entitled “White Wash.” The piece was written and produced shortly after the release of 12 Years A Slave in 2014 and offers a commentary on the issues of race, narrative, and the weight of historical oppression and its compensation within our modern society.
As I look onto the piece through the lens of 2020, I see how many of the undercurrents in our short have become the mainstream discussion as we critically look at who gets a voice in crafting society’s narratives and what it means to face the consequences of those choices.
