Brief: Catalyst - A Tool For Codeless DAO Creation

Catalyst is building an innovative tool for DAO communities to source members to assist in projects and earn tokens. 

The dApp also has an academy learning function that will offer users the ability to earn tokens by undergoing training modules. Other functions the team is interested in building into the app are an algorithm to match user’s skill sets with projects/bounties offered by DAOs.

DAOs are a relatively new concept and can be complicated to understand even for crypto-savvy folks.

Creating an easy, straightforward, and intuition onboarding flow for Catalyst will help orient new users to the app so they can begin to derive value from the communities growing on the platform.

Revamping Catalyst’s Onboarding Flow & Initial App Bootcamp

Initially, the scope for this project covered several components of the app that were removed during our engagement. The first onboarding flow I proposed covered both the Personas Module and Create A Token Module. Removing these components from the main app allowed me to create an even simpler flow that focused on the two core user personas - Community Members and Community Managers.

User Testing

Catalyst has a relationship with a user testing group who would be prospective users of the Catalyst app. These users were international and for many English was not a first language. This emphasized the need to create onboarding that was simple, straightforward, and focused on explaining the core functionality.

Project Pivoting

After my initial user testing and discussions with the Catalyst team, we refocused the project removing the need to onboard into the Persona and Token Creation modules. We also discussed the user’s degree of understanding of the app beginning with the pre-app launch page copy following through into the bootcamp modules.

Final Delivery- A New Onboarding Flow & Initial App Bootcamp

Here is the final presentation to the Catalyst team. This new onboarding process features a stripped-down version of the previous product/launch page that focuses on the benefits Catalyst provides to its different user personas.

Once the user successfully connects with the NEAR blockchain they enter the app for the first time and are prompted with a short series of screens orientating to Catalyst’s main use cases. The onboarding forks down two paths one for users who will join communities and one for users who will create communities. Both paths can be explored in the bootcamp with a simple back and forward interface.

When the user reaches the final screen in the flow they are able to freely explore the app.
